Timeline of events
● 4 May, 2010: Suzanne Pilley disappears after travelling to work at an office in Thistle Street, Edinburgh.
The next day David Gilroy drove about 130 miles to Lochgilphead in Argyll for a work appointment. ● August 2010: A number of extensive searches are carried out including nearly 100 members of mountain rescue teams around the Argyll Forest. ● September 2011: Gilroy is charged with Ms Pilley’s murder. ● February 2012: Gilroy goes on trial after pleading not guilty to murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice. ● March 2012: Gilroy convicted by majority verdict in court. ● April 2012: In a legal first, permission was granted to film David Gilroy being sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh to life imprisonment. He continues to plead his innocence. ● December 2012: Court of Criminal Appeal throws out Gilroy’s appeal against his conviction. ● March 2013: Gilroy fails in bid to have his case reviewed by the UK Supreme Court. ● June 2014: Police carry out a fresh search for Ms Pilley after new witnesses come forward in response to a Crimewatch appeal by her parents. ● September 2015: Complaints made by Gilroy against police are upheld by watchdog. ● February 2016: Gilroy fails in bid to convince judges that CCTV footage exists which could overturn his murder conviction. ● March 2018: Ms Pilley’s family issue an emotional appeal to help police find her final resting place.
