Door opens on new opportunities
Graham Matthews
Each and everyone one of the individuals admitted to the Scottish legal profession today, has shown tremendous dedication and diligence to reach this important moment in their careers.
I have never made any secret of how much I enjoy meeting and welcoming new colleagues to the profession and today is particularly memorable, as we admit a record number, in our first ever double ceremony.
These are the final admissions I will have the privilege to oversee in my roleaspresident. Iamacup-half-full kind of chap and rather than looking back, I am looking forward to the chapter which is about to begin.
As this challenging and fulfilling year comes to an end, I can afford to be optimistic because of my proud membership of a profession which provides numerous and varied opportunities.
Invariably, and in my experience, as one door closes another opens.
And so those admitted today should also be optimistic. They have joined a profession with an important role to play in homes, communities and businesses across Scotland and increasingly, the world.
That is something to be proud of as they embark on this new and exciting stage of their careers.
Today is a day to reflect on hard earned achievements and to celebrate with those who have provided support along the way.
I am delighted to have been part of this special occasion and wish all those admitted today, long, successful and happy careers – welcome to the legal profession. Graham Matthews is president of the Law Society of Scotland
