Deflower Scotland

-

We are all disgusted and embarrassed by the behaviour of the handful of ‘rugby fans’ who abused England manager Eddie Jones after Scotland’s victory at Murrayfield.

However, if we look for the cause of this loutishness a lot of it lies at the SRU’S own doorstep. If we use as a ‘national anthem’ a song which is specifically anti-english in its sentiments, we are only encouraging the oafs who indulge in such behaviour. Flower of scotland was written as a lament and nobody in their right mind would have a lament as a national anthem. At least the English had the good grace to remove the verse about “rebellious Scots” from their anthem.

If we have any ambitions to “be a nation again” we need to grow up a bit and use a more noble song. Otherwise it will be “ruination again”. RICHARD LYON Portcheek Terrace Kirkmichael, South Ayrshire
