A Mother’s Day treat at PURE Spa

The treatment

Super Mum spa package, £65 (worth £89), with foot ritual, a 50 minute Elemis face and body massage and use of the facilities at PURE Spa & Beauty, Edinburgh, which include a sauna, steam room and swimming pool. Other Mother’s Day themed packages available.

Why go?

Enjoy some child-free time for Mother’s Day with a pampering session at one of Edinburgh’s PURE spas, with three locations in the capital (Ocean Terminal, where you can use their Infrared sauna as part of the package, Lothian Road and Waterloo Place), as well as branches in Aberdeen and Glasgow.

Our spy says

The shrieking at home had reached at least 85 decibels, and my nerves were beyond frayed by the time the babysitter arrived and I was free to haul my weary frame along to PURE Spa.

I whizzed up to the third floor, far enough away from the noise of eastend traffic to remedy my tattered eardrums, changed into my robe and slippers and was instructed to do nothing but chill out. Off I trotted to the (very dark) relaxation room, where I lounged for a bit with my herbal tea and squinted at glossy magazines, until my therapist collected me for the therapy medley.

The first was the foot ritual, which was a warming scrub of the trotters using an exfoliating Himalayan rock salt scrub.

After this, I leapt up onto the bed and my cool-handed therapist began the hot stones body massage element. My tight back muscles were loosened off, and I was lulled into a child-free rapture. It was just nice to be able to lie down, without interruption.

Shifting over onto my back, the facial commenced. Elemis’s Procollagen Cleansing Balm was applied, followed by the gorgeously scented Ginseng Toner. To fix my dehydrated winter skin, she applied a slightly stingy Papaya Enzyme Peel, then gave my scalp a gentle knead while the fruity lotion worked its magic. Next up was a Dynamic Resurfacing Mask in order to tackle fine lines, which was removed before she applied a dollop of Pro-collagen Marine Cream. Done.

I rounded off my afternoon with a blast in their sauna and steam room. I might have done a few laps of their swimming pool too, but I didn’t want to wash off all the lovely potions.

The results

If you want to treat a frazzled mother to an afternoon of peace, without breaking the bank, this is a decent (and mercifully quiet) port of call.
