Restrain dogs

-

Following two separate incidents in Aberdeenshire where five sheep were killed, and other sheep were distressed, two women were charged by the police. (your report, 6 March)

In Argyll four sheep were killed, seven had to be put down and six sheep treated for their injuries (your report, 8 March).

There are too many inconsiderate owners who think they are entitled to let their dogs off the leash in parks and on farmers’ property even where there is livestock.

Children playing in parks have been attacked and disfigured and there have even been fatalities.

I visited Culzean Castle, a National Trust for Scotland property, and the rules stated that dogs had to be on the leash and everyone complied.

Children were running and playing unmolested by “friendly” dogs.

If the Scottish Government were concerned they would pass legislation forcing dog owners to keep their animals on a leash except in specially designated areas.

This would keep children safe and also allow dogs the freedom to roam.

However, politicians need the irresponsible dog owners’ votes to keep them in office and, sadly, there are too many of them.

Both irresponsible owners AND politicians that is.
