A fair day’s pay?

Employers who failed to pay their workers the minimum wage have been named by the UK Government. More than 200 staff in Scotland were underpaid by 15 firms, losing out on almost £75,000 in wages.

I’m delighted these businesses are named and shamed and hope everyone who reads the list and boycotts each and every one of them until the business develops morals.

Why didn’t Nicola Sturgeon intervene and point these Scottish employers out... oh, it’s not a devolved issue ? She seems to pick and choose what devolved issues to rant about, thankfully these fines show just how seriously the UK Government takes this matter!

The companies probably cannot afford minimum wage, they will be forced into it and then lay them all off. Sad, but that’s what happens.

There may be insufficie­nt to pay a minimum wage to employees but you can be quite sure there will be more than enough to pay fat salaries to Directors, lease rentals on large company cars for Directors, and dividends for shareholde­rs.

There will always people that will circumnavi­gate employment laws, the biggest con today is the use of so called subcontrac­tors, a tax scam and probably a health and safety scam and our councils give contracts to many of these companies that operate is such a way, does it make them complicit with tax dodging? And if the work is sub standard, who is responsibl­e, the company
