In 1978 when most of the north of Scotland was covered by deep snow, the EU provided a £500,000 emergency fund for livestock farmers. There is fat chance of the EU being so generous to the UK in the present circumstances!

In the event, there were relatively few livestock losses. Even sheep caught in deep snowdrifts for several days survived amazingly well.
