Inquiry into theft of antique naval chest

An antique naval chest has been stolen from a house in Dumfries and Galloway.

The family heirloom, worth around £1,000, was the only item stolen in the raid on the property in Barhill Road, Dalbeattie.

The chest, from the Georgian period, is described as being in the form of a writing desk with drawers down either side.

Police are appealing for information about the theft which happened between 3 March and Saturday.

Officers said they were also carrying out door to door inquiries in the area as part of the investigation.
