Carragher suspended over spitting incident

The Sky television network has suspended sports pundit Jamie Carragher after the former Liverpool player was filmed spitting in the direction of a 14-year-old girl through his car window.

The incident took place on Saturday after Carragher left Old Trafford, where he was working for Sky Sports at Manchester United’s game against Liverpool.

In a video of the incident, the teenager’s father repeatedly mentioned Saturday’s score – Liverpool won 2-1 – before Carragher spat.

Sky said it was taking the matter “extremely seriously”.

“We have made that clear to him in person today and suspended him from his duties,” the company said. “It falls well 0 Jamie Carragher was filmed spitting at a teenage girl below the standards we expect of our people.”

After being suspended, Carragher appeared on Sky News and said his future “remains to be seen.” A Danish TV channel has also pulled Carragher from its coverage of Manchester United’s Champions League game against Sevilla at Old Trafford today.
