Montrose level at top as Peterhead suffer home defeat

-

Peterhead have been joined at the top of League 2 by Montrose after the Blue Toon went down 2-1 to Stenhousemuir and the Gable Endies defeated Annan by the same score.

The Warriors took the lead at Balmoor on 17 minutes when Mark Mcguigan skipped past home goalkeeper Greg Fleming and rolled the ball in from a tight angle with Colin Mcmenamin adding a second from close range 14 minutes later.

Rory Mcallister brought Peterhead back into the game when he scored with a freekick ten minutes from time but an equaliser could not be found.

At Links Park, Chris Templeton headed in a Paul Watson cross five minutes from the break to give Montrose the lead. He then came up with the winner on 65 minutes after Scott Roberts had tapped in an equaliser three minutes into the second half.

Former Rangers and Northern Ireland striker Andy Little drilled home his first goal for Stirling Albion as the Forthbank men won 1-0 at Berwick Rangers.

Little found the net on 41 minutes, but he blazed a penalty high over the crossbarmidway through the second half, although Dave Mackay’s side saw the game out without damage.

Clyde could still make a late charge for the play-offs after securing a 1-0 success over visitors Elgin City. David Goodwillie came up with the winner on the hour mark when he headed in Chris Mcstay’s cross.

Edinburgh City kept a 15-point gap on bottom side Cowdenbeath thanks to a 1-1 draw between the sides at Ainslie Park.

The Blue Brazil missed a great chance when Jordyn Sheerin sent a penalty wide at the start of the second half and Graham Taylor rubbed salt into Fife wounds 19 minutes from time when he found the net. The Fifers rallied and David Cox fired a shot past Calum Antell from the edge of the box with three minutes left.
