Further redundancies announced for Rosyth

- By EMMA NEWLANDS

About 150 further jobs are to be lost at Babcock Rosyth, bringing the total to 400 since November.

The additional posts are to be cut at the dockyard after the firm spent months reviewing its operations.

A Babcock spokesman said: “Following a review of our current business structure we have decided to combine our energy and marine operations on site into one cohesive team to optimise performance of our current projects and maximise future opportunities.”

The £6.2 billion Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier programme saw the HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales built across seven sites, before final works at Rosyth.

Jane Ross, negotiator at Prospect, the union for professionals, specialists and managers in the shipbuilding industry, said it would work to avoid compulsory redundancies, “but there is no escaping the fact that our members are angry and disappointed at further job cuts.”
