Jarvie Plant making it big with depot in Manchester

Plant hire business Jarvie Plant has hailed a strong performanc­e from its Manchester depot less than a year after the Scots firm launched into the city.

The Grangemout­h-based group yesterday reported a “sharp” return on the investment it has made in its first facility in England.

Thefirmacq­uiredathre­eacre site in Astley, some ten miles from Manchester city centre, employing up to ten staff and has invested heavily in a wide range of hire equipment, including dumpers, excavators, generators and lighting.

Residentia­l and office developmen­ts across the city are on the rise with a 60 per cent increase in the number of units being constructe­d and in excess of 1.5 million square feet of business space is being developed across six new schemes.

Jarvie Plant was founded in 1960 by John Jarvie senior and is now, with the third generation of the family in post, one of Scotland’s largest plant hire businesses. It has nine depots, including Manchester, with a tenth, in Inverness, opening in 2018.
