Be cautious

-

David Robertson is right to argue against transgender indoctrination (Friends of the Scotsman, 14 March), although I would urge caution about being carried away by anecdotal evidence – remember how the GLC was falsely accused of banning black bin bags because of its anti-racist policy?

I wonder what is the minimum percentage of the population an excluded group must reach before Mr Robertson feels intervention to prevent stigma and discrimination is justified? We don’t really know how many people experience gender dysphoria, but we do know that 50 per cent of the population are born female, yet this isn’t enough to prevent the reverend’s church discriminating against our sex.

Robertson suggests that troubled gender dysphoria people should seek their identity in Christ. This ignores the fact of the dilemma of devout Christians who have sought

found their identity in Christ (in whom there is neither male nor female) but face rejection from the church family where they ought to feel most at home.
