Clean sheet gave Cargill a boost - now he wants three points

-

By On-loan Partick Thistle defender Baily Cargill is looking to build on an improved defensive display in Edinburgh today.

Cargill was a late arrival from Bournemouth in the January transfer window, but has had a frustrating introduction to Scottish football.

The centre-back has won only one match so far and picked up two draws, the latest being an encouraging goalless draw with Aberdeen last weekend.

That was the first clean sheet struggling Thistle have kept with Cargill in the side, and he is hoping to build on that against Hearts this afternoon.

“The clean sheet was very important,” he said. “I think that’s the first one since I’ve been here so that’s probably the highlight of the game for me. It was well deserved and it was good to get a point, but we need to start winning games now.

“We’re in a relegation battle and we need to start winning games to get out of that.”

He added: “Someone always told me that if you can get a clean sheet then you get something from the game.

“First and foremost my job is to get the clean sheet but I think we are a good side, we play good football and the goals will come when we need them.

“We have a few big games coming up against Hearts and Hibs, two massive games, and if we can get a win in either of those then we will be buzzing.

“We need to turn those draws or losses into wins and pick up as many points as we can.”

The Jags are four points clear of bottom club Ross County with four games to go before the split and Cargill is staying positive.

He said: “We have four big games coming up before the split, three are against top-six teams [Hearts, Hibs and Kilmarnock] and then we have the Ross County game.

“We just need to pick up as many points as we can before the split and give ourselves the best chance against the teams near us.”
