Suspected ordnance found on island beach

-

A cordon has been put up on a Shetland beach after bad weather swept suspected ordnance on to the shore.

The coastguard said a 100-metre cordon was in place at Sands of Sounds beach in Lerwick after a member of the public spotted the item at around 3pm yesterday.

The public have been asked to avoid the area with an ordnance disposal team due to travel to the area in the next day or so.

A coastguard spokesman said: “It’s not unusual that after a period of bad weather you may find things washing up on beaches.”
