Mccall urges his Ayr side to snuff out Trouten threat at Cliftonhill

- By CRAIG P STEWART

League 1 leaders Ayr United can move six points clear of Raith Rovers if they see off Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill tonight with manager Ian Mccall telling his side to keep former Honest Man Alan Trouten quiet.

Mccall said: “Albion Rovers are a good footballing side and in Alan they have one of the best talents in the league. He was with us a couple of years ago and we never saw the best of him but he is doing really well at Rovers.

“People talk about our strikers and keeping them quiet, however we need to do the same with him.”

Coatbridge manager Brian Kerr is looking for his Rovers side to use their Cliftonhill ground to help their fight for survival.

He explained: “Our ground is not a welcoming place at the best of times and Ayr are not going to fancy coming to our place in midweek and play- ing on a really heavy surface. We need to use that to our advantage.”

Airdrie manager Stephen Findlay is also hoping that the benefits of being at home will work in his side’s favour against Alloa after a 2-2 draw with the Wasps at the Indodrill Stadium on Saturday.

Findlay said: “We have been strong at the Excelsior all season and do not lose the goals there that we lose in away games.

“Hopefully we can use that strength to win and keep things bubbling along in the play-off chase.”

Alloa boss Jim Goodwin was disappointed that his side were not able to hold on to a lead on Saturday, however he reckons that they can get three points tonight.

He said: “It is always frustrating to be in a winning position twice and not win.

“We need to ensure that we play the entire game on the front foot as opposed to letting our opponents come at us.”
