Fleming gets first win in Canada and climbs table

- By LORIN MCDOUGALL

Lockerbie’s Hannah Fleming and her Scotland team finally broke their duck at the World Curling Championships when they posted their first win at the sixth attempt in North Bay, Ontario.

Fleming, pictured, Vicky Wright, Alice Spence and Jennifer Dodds had lost their first five round-robin matches and suffered two heavy losses on Monday, but the Scottish champions bounced back against Germany’s Daniela Jentsch and her rink.

Despite conceding two stones at the first end, the Scots quickly regrouped and were soon 4-2 up before a three at the fifth end put them in a commanding position.

Fleming’s rink eventually won 8-5 to lift themselves off the foot of the table, but they next face a daunting task against the unbeaten Canadian team of 2014 Olympic champion Jennifer Jones.
