Kranjcar and Rangers agree to end his contract
Niko Kranjcar has left Rangers after having his contract terminated by mutual consent.
The former Tottenham Hotpsur and Portsmouth midfielder had featured just once in 2018, in a Scottish Cup tie against Fraserburgh, with signings in the January window pushing him down the pecking order at Ibrox.
With little chance of a reprieve under manager Graeme Murty, it was decided to release the player early from his contract to allow him to explore other options.
Kranjcar, 33, said in a statement on the Rangers website: “Myself and Rangers have come to a mutual agreement to terminate our common contract.
“It’s been an honour to have been part of such a big club and to have played for such great fans, it will always remain an honour for me. I wish the club success in its future while I now consider the options I have on the table.”
The 81-times capped Croatian international was signed by former Rangers manager Mark Warburton from the New York Cosmos in the summer of 2016.
His chances of making an impact at Ibrox were dealt a major blow when a serious knee injury in training cut short his 2016-17 season after just three months. He played 26 times for Rangers under three managers and scored three goals.
