Van Gogh painting to sell for £25m

An important Vincent van Gogh masterpiece previously owned by Dame Elizabeth Taylor is set to sell for £25 million at auction.

The Dutch artist painted Vue de l’asile et de la Chapelle de Saint-rémy in 1889, the year before he took his own life.

It was painted during his time in a French asylum but is the only piece which he did not paint within the confines of the hospital. Vue de l’asile et de la Chapelle de Saint-rémy will be sold on 15 May at Christie’s evening sale of Impressionist and Modern art in New York.
