Russian alliance

-

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson accuses the Russians of using the forthcoming football World Cup for propagandapurposes, rather as adolph Hitler used the 1936 Olympics for the same reason (although Russia would not be alone in this).

The Russian ambassador takes umbrage at this, pointing out how horribly Russia suffered after the attack by Hitler in World War Two.

Perhaps the ambassador should be a bit more circumspect in his views of this time. When Britain stood alone in 1940 and could have been annihilated, Russia was in alliance with Hitler (albeit an alliance of convenience ). WILLIAM BALLANTINE
