Sighting sparks appeal in search for student

Police searching for missing student Duncan Sim have appealed for informatio­n about a man seen on the night he went missing.

Officersar­eworkingto­establish the full circumstan­ces surroundin­g the sighting in St Andrews in the early hours of Thursday, 15 March. The man, described as around 6ft tall and with dark-coloured hair, was reported to have been seen standing in the water at around 3am near Kinkell Braes, in the East Sands area.

Police are eager to trace this person, and anyone who may 0 Duncan Sim was last seen on 14 March in St Andrews have seen him, as they work to establish if this sighting may be connected to the ongoing investigat­ion to trace Mr Sim.

Duncan, 19, was last seen outside Madras Rugby Club, Old Station Road, on Wednesday, 14 March, at around 11:15pm. He did not return to his accommodat­ion and has not been seen since.

As part of inquiries into Duncan’s disappeara­nce, officers have spoken to a number of witnesses and are keen to trace the man reported to have been seen in the East Sands area at this time.

Chief Inspector Steven Hamilton, local area commander for north-east Fife, said: “We’re working to establish if this sighting may be connected to Duncan’s disappeara­nce and are asking for the public’s help as part of this.

“Our inquiries to date do notsupport­duncanhavi­ng travelled to the East Sands area, however, we are committed to pursuing all possible lines of inquiry in order to trace him.

“I would urge anyone who may have been in the East Sands area around 3am on Thursday 15 March and fits this descriptio­n, or who saw anyone matching this descriptio­n, to come forward as soon as possible.”
