Teachers at three schools go on strike
Teachers in East Dunbartonshire will go on strike today after the dismissal of the local authority’s 11th hour challenge to secure an interim interdict in the Court of Session.
During yesterday’s hearing to consider the petition, the judge dismissed every point of challenge East Dunbartonshire Council made.
The judgement means strike action in Kirkintilloch High School, Lenzie Academy and Bearsden Academy will go ahead.
Council leaders said that Bearsden Academy would be closed to all pupils with the exception of those in the language and communication unit. Bearsden pupils who attend college in the afternoon should come to the school at 0 Chris Keates said teachers’ goodwill was ‘exhausted’ lunchtime to get the bus to college.
Kirkintilloch High School and Lenzie Academy will be open to all pupils.
Chris Keates, NASUWT general secretary, said: “Teachers’ patience and goodwill is exhausted and legal challenges only make a bad situation worse.”
