Scots population of dolphins remains stable
Bottlenose dolphin numbers in the Moray Firth remain stable, according to a new report from Scottish Natural Heritage.
Around 200 of the mammals call the coastal North Sea near Scotland home. More than half frequently use the Moray Firth, part of which is a designated special area of conservation.
The animals are part of the world’s most northern resident bottlenose dolphin population, and have become a major tourist attraction along Scotland’s north-east coast.
They generate more than £4 million a year for the local economy.
