Pair of ospreys in pole position with new nest
A pair of rare ospreys have been given an unlikely new home – on top of a telegraph pole.
Conservationists became concerned after a pine tree where the birds have been nesting for 14 years in the Scottish Borders showed signs of dangerous decay and potential collapse.
Electricity firm SP Energy Networks has now created a new home for the raptors, close to the original nest.
Malcolm Henderson, of Lothian & Borders Raptor Study Group, said: “It is extremely important to preserve this site to ensure the birds stay local and continue to breed.”
