£17m schools plan gets the green light

Work on a new primary and high school in Midlothian is set to get under way by the middle of next year after councillors approved construction plans.

The plans would see a new Danderhall Primary with community facilities built on the site of the existing school with a secondary campus expected to be located in the planned Shawfair town centre. In the coming months, there will be further consultations with local people on the education facilities and catchment.

Funding for the project has been increased to £17.134 million.
