- By SCOTT REID

Weight loss brand Scottish Slimmers has been acquired in a six-figure deal that sees Scottish entrepreneur Amanda Boyle take the helm.

The brand, which operates in 100 towns and cities across Scotland and employs more than 60 membership managers and staff at its Aber- deen head office, has been bought by Best You (Wellbeing) Limited.

Boyle, who is taking up the role of chief executive, said: “Scottish Slimmers is a recognised leader in the weight loss industry and, in a market that’s worth more than £2 billion each year, this is a great opportunity to breathe new life into a well-respected brand that needed updating.

“We will remain headquartered in Aberdeen, with a new management team comprising two internal promotions and one external hire.”

Last year, Boyle was appointed “entrepreneur in residence” at Aberdeen Business School at Robert Gordon University. In 2015, she was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.

Increasingly, Scottish Slim- mers is working with employers to encourage staff to make better choices around lifestyle and eating habits.

Boyle added: “For more than 30 years, the Scottish Slimmers brand has become a byword for weight loss. My aim is to build on that strong heritage with services and products that encompass wellbeing and make us more relevant today.”
