Two join clean air group after resignations
New members have been appointed to the Scottish Government’s clean air group after two environmental experts resigned in protest.
Professor James Curran and Emilia Hanna from the Scottish Environment Link stood down from the Cleaner Air for Scotland Governance Group, citing slow progress and lack of ambition on the group.
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland and Professor Campbell Gemmell, an expert in environmental science, policy and regulation, have now joined.
The resignations followed publication of plans for the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) for Glasgow which has faced criticism from Greens and environmentalists for not going far enough to tackle potentially deadly air pollution.
The zone is due to start at the start of 2019 and initially targets bus pollution.
