Back on track
We can be thankful that the proposed merger of Police Scotland and British Transport Police has finally come off the rails as the SNP have conceded that the takeover proposals had safety concerns and were ill conceived, forcing abandonment of the plan.
British Transport Police is a well-established and wellrun force doing a good job of making travel safe by providing national security for a national service.
Police Scotland is in its fifth year since it was set up and needs further consolidation and time to cope with its troubled management structure before taking on any further responsibilities.
