Montrose eye top spot with win at Central

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Montrose will top the table if they win at Cowdenbeath tonight but manager Stewart Petrie is keeping cool at the prospect.

Petrie explained: “Our first objective was to get enough points to avoid finishing bottom and we did that a few weeks ago. The second objective was to get into the playoffs and Saturday’s win over Edinburgh City made sure of that.

“Our focus is now only on finishing as high as we can in the top four.”

Gary Bollan has not given up on his Blue Brazil side avoiding finishing bottom of League 2 despite knowing that defeat at Montrose would leave their hopes hanging by a thread.

Bollan said: “I am looking at things differently as we could be seven points behind Edinburgh City with four games to play after this game. Our final position is not in our control but how we play throughout the rest of the season is.”

Robbie Horn is hoping that his side defeat visitors Stenhousemuir and secure their first home win in four months so he can finally enjoy being the Berwick Rangers manager.

Success over the Ochilview men could see Horn’s side safe from the Pyramid Play-off and the Shielfield boss said: “People have been saying that we are one win away from safety for a few weeks but we have not been able to secure it.”

“I would like to get over the line and chill out ahead of our final games.”

A win would move Stenhousemuir back into the top four with manager Brown Ferguson looking for his players to show the character required to do so.

Ferguson said: “A win would be terrific but a win with the players showing a strong mindset would be even better as that would set us up for the challenges that remain.”
