Hopkin not interested in talking about second place

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Livingston manager David Hopkin is not looking for his side to consolidate their hold on second place at Dunfermline tonight as he is focusing only on securing a play-off spot.

The West Lothian club are eight points clear of third-placed Morton and nine ahead of the Pars and Hopkin said: “Securing second place is not something I have looked at. I am only concentrating on Livingston being in the playoffs which would be a fantastic achievement in our first season back at this level.

“We started a massive week with a good 3-0 win at Dumbarton and now head to Dunfermline with Morton to come after that.

“We will just take things one game at a time and this will be a really tough fixture as Dunfermline have been flying and scoring a good number of goals.”

Saturday’s 3-1 win over Queen of the South saw Dunfermline jump into the top four and manager Allan Johnston said: “We have five games left and three of them are at home so we have given ourselves a chance. Livingston will be difficult opponents however, we will look to take the game to them.”

Queen of the South manager Gary Naysmith wants his players to show that their loss at East End Park was not a fatal blow to their play-off hopes by defeating Falkirk tonight.

Naysmith said: “Promotion is out of our hands now but we cannot rule it out. We simply have to try and gain as many points as possible and see if we can take control again.”

The Bairns can move to within two points of their hosts with two games still in hand.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss John Robertson is hoping that his side can move closer to the playoff chasing pack by seeing off already relegated visitors Brechin City.

Robertson said: “We came back from two down to St Mirren on Saturday to get a point. That will have been an even better recovery if we take three points from Brechin and keep ourselves interested in the promotion chase.”
