The 2014 Commonwealth Games has had little impact in driving up sporting participation levels among Scots despite rasing Glasgow’s profile and attracting dozens of major events to the city.

The range of new and improved facilities that have emerged in Glasgow as a result of the Games appear to have shown a rise in activity levels among people in the city, but across Scotland participation levels have flatlined.

The drive to get Scots more active was among the key “legacy” aims of the 2014 Games, but a final evaluation report into the event found the benefits were “nuanced”.

The report’s release comes as the successor Games starts later today on Australia’s Gold Coast.
