‘Devastated’ family pay tribute to A9 crash victim

A man who died in a crash on the A9 was on his way home for the Easter break, his family have said as they paid tribute to him.

Duncan Mackay was killed when his Porsche Cayman crashed near Latheron, Caithness, at around 12:50pm on Friday. No other vehicles were involved.

The 37-year-old had been living in Manchester and was travelling to visit family in Caithness over the weekend.

His family said: “Duncan Mackay was a loving and caring son, brother, nephew and friend to many.

“He was thoughtful, considerat­e and lived his life to its fullest. He was a creative, adventurou­s individual and was an inspiratio­n to us all.

“Although currently based in Manchester, he loved Caithness and visited the county regularly. He had been very much looking forward to coming home to spend Easter with his family and long-time friends.”

Mr Mackay’s family said he had represente­d Scotland at touch rugby tournament­s and loved to keep fit.

The statement added: “We, along with his extended family and friends, are devastated by his death. We have an overwhelmi­ng feeling of heartache and grief, and so much love for him.”

Police are investigat­ing the cause of the crash.
