Motherwell The Main man

-

Motherwell blew a golden opportunity to inflict another defeat on Rangers this season on Saturday but that was not the most remarkable thing about the game. That honour fell to Curtis Main and not just for his sensational performance, reminiscent of the true battering-ram strikers of old. Early in the contest, Main calmly sidefooted home a penalty and in the second half he thundered a free-kick over the bar. Nothing odd about that – except he used his right foot for precision from the spot and left for hum-dinging power. Genuinely two-footed players are rare. It puts Main in the exalted company of World Cup winner Andreas Brehme – though sadly for the big Englishman, that is where such lofty comparisons probably come to an end!
