Spain after summer deal on Gibraltar
Spain is aiming to reach an agreement with the UK over its long-standing territorial claim on Gibraltar by the summer.
Foreign minister Alfonso Dastis said Spain would “defend our position”, but the two sides were “working towards” an agreement as soon as possible.
The UK said “informal” talks were ongoing about Gibraltar’s post-brexit future with Spain.
Gibraltar remains a UK overseas territory on the Iberian Peninsula, but Spain is arguing its claim to the territory.
Mr Dastis has previously said sovereignty would not be an issue in Brexit negotiations.
