Cooler heads

-

If the US had handled the assassination of President Kennedy as the UK has done the Skripals’ poisoning, the Cold War would have turned very hot. After all, the alleged assassin had resided in the USSR, was married to a Russian and had even applied to a Cuban consulate in Mexico for a visa to facilitate his escape.

Fortunately President Johnson called for an investigation, avoided voicing hasty conclusions and didn’t pressure allies into blaming Russia. Given the paucity of tangible evidence, Prime Minster May’s seizure of this chance to divert attention from her Brexit shambles is irresponsible and could lead us into the abyss.
