Muir distances herself from Salazar’s Nike Oregon Project

-

Athletics: Laura Muir has denied claims she is to link up with controversial coach Alberto Salazar at his Nike Oregon Project.

It has been revealed the double world indoor medallist has employed Dave Mchenry to work on her strength and conditioning as she targets European Championship gold in Berlin this summer.

For the past seven years, the American’ s roles have included one as lead therapist at the Oregon-based centre, overseen by Salazar, whose setup is still under investigation by US anti-doping officials.

British Athletics confirmed it is contributing to the costs of hiring Mchenry but Muir, left, insists longtime coach Andy Young will continue to spearhead her programme on home soil. “Andy is still my only coach, he isn’t getting rid of me that easily,” she said. “While I am a Nike athlete, I am not joining or working with any other groups, or leaving Glasgow, nor have they asked me to.”
