#SUGARTAX

Recipes of many soft drinks sold in the UK are set to change after a new sugar tax was implemented. The tax on sugary drinks is designed to reduce sugar consumption, help fight obesity and pump money into children’s health projects, but some people aren’t happy about it.

said: “You have destroyed Lucozade, Ribena and Irn Bru. You are history’s greatest monster, George Osborne.”

@a_leesha1 wrote: “We need different measures, not just putting tax on everything. Healthy food is VERY expensive and someone who’s on a lower income can’t really afford that, can they? So putting tax on products they can afford is absurd. Try making healthier food cheaper for them.”

@Simonroffe posted: “100% behind the sugar tax as it has encouraged manufacturers to change their recipe. Obesity is a real health pandemic. Education in health awareness is important of course, but this is also a strong step.”
