Nursery children are to receive free fruit or vegetables as part of a new Scottish Government healthy eating package that will also see poor families given targeted help to buy nutritious food.

It won’t be long before the Scottish Government will be supplying staff to families to change nappies and put the kids to bed. Whatever happened to parents having a responsibi­lity for caring and rearing their own children?

Wouldn’t it be more effective (and cheaper) to apply criminal penalties to those “parents” who can’t be bothered to use the generous funds already provided by government to feed and clothe their weans appropriat­ely, instead of defrauding the taxpayer by using the cash to fund their own leisure lifestyles?
