Road rage

-

More than 400,000 fines were handed out in Scotland’s two biggest cities to drivers caught in bus lanes over the last three years, research has revealed.

I got one in Glasgow. It was dark and raining couldn’t see the signs as they were poorly lit up and I was behind a bus. Only found out when a taxi driver told me, but I had already gone far enough in the lane to get the fine.

If the amount of charges are so high then the councils should be using the income to improve signage, markings to give motorists a fair go. They can’t keep using it as a cash cow. What are they spending it on? It’s certainly not on the crumbling road network.

They don’t want to make it clear. They want people to stray into lanes. Easy money.

Brian Riley Maybe with these fines they can’t fix the potholes.

There is a lot that can be done to make dopey drivers aware you can drive in these lanes anytime at the weekends and 18 hours every single day. Theses lanes should also have the words (“part time”) before the words bus lane only at certain times. We also need flashing signs saying “use both lanes” because a lot of drivers are so stupid and need taken by the hand like a child and others are paranoid about getting jailed for straying into these lanes because they don’t read road signs or don’t understand them.

On the bus into Aberdeen I see drivers keeping out the bus lane outside the restricted hours. I am just waiting on the council deciding to fine them as the Highway Code makes it clear that drivers should always keep to the left.
