Birdwoman of Campbeltown tames heron
Great-grandmother Crystal Paterson, 91, has tamed a heron by hand-feeding it fish fillets.
She has forged the remarkable bond with the bird, called Hector, after nursing him back to health five years ago.
He now pecks at the window of her home in Carradale, near Campbeltown, Argyll and Bute, to ask for his treat.
“Hector is like a pet to us, part of our life,” said Crystal. “He comes to the window almost every day, sometimes two or three times a day. If he doesn’t see us, he’ll rattle on it to get our attention.”
