Mouat’s title dream smashed in Las Vegas

HOCKEY Edinburgh University produced the upset of the Scottish Cup quarter-finals with a 5-3 win away at third placed Grove Menzieshil­l. It was not a promising start for the students when Albert Rowling and Aidan Mcquade gave the home side a two-goal lead. Goals from David Mawhinney, Davin Keuter and Callum White put the students put them into a 3-2 lead but Ollie James made it level at the interval before White and Jack Jamieson sealed the win.

Western Wildcats beat Inverleith 3-1 at Peffermill with goals from Matt Mcginlay, Nikki Humphries and Fraser Calder. Grange also reached the semi-finals when Dundee Wanderers conceded due to wedding commitment­s. CURLING Edinburgh’s Bruce Mouat and his team face a bronze medal clash with South Korea after losing to Canadian holder Brad Gushue in the semi-finals of the World Championsh­ip in Las Vegas.

Mouat, Hammy Mcmillan, Bobby Lammie and Grant Hardie won 11 of 12 round-robin games, but conceded at 9-5 down after the ninth end.
