Coventry car crash boy named

A two-year-old boy who died after being hit by a car in Coventry has been named as Umar Akhalwaya.

The toddler and his mother were struck by a Volkswagen Bora at about 9pm on Sunday.

He died of his injuries in hospital, while his mother, 32, suffered multiple fractures and remains in a critical condition.

The pair had been visiting family when the collision took place. The boy’s three siblings were unhurt. Police said the driver of the vehicle, a 39-yearold man, stopped at the scene and is assisting officers.
