Escaped African sacred ibis returned to zoo

-

An escaped bird has been recaptured after escaping from a zoo.

The African sacred ibis, which managed to get out of its cage at the Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder, was found wandering in a car park on an industrial estate in Bathgate, six miles away.

Rebecca Rodgers, of Five Sisters Zoo, said: “We have now named him Pat because we found him at the Royal Mail sorting office at Whitehill Industrial Estate. We are very pleased he is back at the zoo safely.”

The bird is recognisable from its curved, pointy beak.
