Scottish Equity Partners managing partner to chair BVCA

Calum Paterson, the managing partner of Scottish Equity Partners (SEP), has been appointed chairman of the body representi­ng the private equity and venture capital industry in the UK.

He will serve as chair of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Associatio­n (BVCA) for 2018/19, confirmed yesterday.

The BVCA has more than 700 member firms, including around 300 fund managers and 120 institutio­nal investors.

Paterson has worked in private equity and venture capital since 1991. He was co-founder of SEP in 2000 and has been responsibl­e for managing the firm since then. Glasgowbas­ed SEP has grown into one

Paterson said: “I am very pleased to take on the role of BVCA chair, particular­ly at this important time for the industry and for the UK economy.

“I would like to pay tribute to my immediate predecesso­r, Helen Steers of Pantheon Ventures, for doing such an excellent job during the last 12 months. Private equity and venture capital plays a vital role in the UK, not least in terms of supporting the growth of innovative companies. I look forward to supporting the BVCA in representi­ng and promoting the entire industry, across the whole country.”
