Morton boss Duffy warns players: We must be on top of our game to stop Sons winning again

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Morton manager Jim Duffy is looking for his players to up their game against a Dumbarton side aiming to follow their success over Dundee United with a win at Cappielow.

The Greenock men need three points to have any chance of getting back into top four and they will not secure them if they are not at their best, according to Duffy.

He said: “Dumbarton beating Dundee United may have surprised some people. It never surprised me. No results in this league surprise me as anything can happen, if you have one team playing well and the other just a shade off.”

“If they play like they did at the weekend and we are the slight shade off the form that we were at Livingston on Saturday, then they will be in a good position to get another win.” Dumbarton manager Stephen Aitken reckons that the never-say-die attitude his players are showing will see them secure another threee points in their bid to move off second-bottom spot.

Aitken said: “We have been written off, but we are still in with a chance of getting to eighth thanks to the players. The players went out on Saturday determined to win and, when you see the desire from Craig Barr to go in where it hurts to score two goals, you know that they are giving everything. We will go and play like that again at Morton and see where that takes us.”

Inverness can reach a season high of sixth place if they overcome visitors Falkirk, with manager John Robertson refusing to rule out a late surge into a play-off spot.

Robertson said: “I said before the Queen of the South game on Saturday that, if we won, we still had an opportunity to get closer to the top four.

“We went out and secured anotherthee pointswhichsets us up really nicely for the visit of Falkirk.”

“If we can win this one, it takes Falkirk out of the race and keeps us in the running, especially as we would have increased momentum.”

Falkirk head to the Highlands looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat from Dunfermline, with manager Paul Hartley saying: “Making the play-offs looks a long way off for us now. However, we have to go out, be professional and get enough points in the next five games to ensure that Dumbarton do not catch us.”
