St Johnstone Realistic planning

- SJ

The atmosphere at Mcdiarmid Park on Saturday was very much end of season. Perhaps reflecting the general belief, even among the most pessimistic fans, that Saints will stay up.

Tommy Wright was right to have his say on how Saints’ top-six finishes over recent seasons should be viewed. Most supporters, especially those who have followed Saints for many years, would agree with his assessment. There has been a realism in Saints planning for each season since promotion with the first goal being to stay in the league.

The final league positions over that period highlight this approach has not restricted the ambition of the club. It makes good business sense to reset goals as progress is made.
