In 1899 Queen Victoria was on the throne. You could have a day out – ie the match, tram ticket, beef dripping sandwich, a Woodbine and still have change from a shilling.

But if you were a Clyde fan, you only had four points, and the music hall probably had more appeal.

No one wants Brechin City to emulate that distant record. Equally, we all fear being the team who loses to them. They hit the bar and had a penalty denied against St Mirren. We struggled to beat them 2-1 at Christmas. Eleven times they have lost by the odd goal.

We face them on Saturday in the first of three games which should take us to the promotion play-offs. We’ll wish Brechin well next week!
