Petrie alert to the danger of Berwick’s pride
Montrose manager Stewart Petrie reckons pride will be the biggest obstacle his table-topping side must overcome when they take on ninth-placed visitors Berwick Rangers.
The Gable Endies opened up a three-point gap in defeating bottom side Cowdenbeath on Tuesday, but Petrie is wary of the Borderers looking to end uncertainty over their SPFL status under their own steam.
The Links Park manager said: “Berwick need a win to ensure they do not get caught at the foot. Their pride will see them want to achieve safety by their own results and not because Cowdenbeath lost to our closest challengers Peterhead. That will make them very difficult opponents.”
Berwick boss Robbie Horn said: “I cheered Montrose winning in midweek but I will not be cheering a Montrose win this time.”
Peterhead boss Jim Mcinally said: “Cowdenbeath had been putting in a good rally. However, the Montrose game will have been disappointing. They will look to keep things going for another week by beating us, but we simply have to win.”
Central Park manager Gary Bollan said: “Both sides have to win so it will all be about who copes with the pressure.”
Clyde will look to delay Stirling Albion’s passage to the play-offs, and increase their own chances of being involved, by seeing off Albion at Broadwood. Clyde boss Danny Lennon said: “After a storming run we have had a couple of setbacks. If we can win this one then we are certainly putting pressure on the teams around us again.”
Stirling manager Dave Mackay said: “I am not happy that we have been limping towards the line and I want to see a positive step taken.”
Fourth-placed Stenhousemuir take on a visiting Annan side who will finish in midtable. Warriors manager Brown Ferguson said: “Things are in our hands and I want it to stay that way.”
Elgin, who are a point behind the Ochilview men, host an Edinburgh City side who are not yet safe. Borough Briggs boss Gavin Price said: “We are still in there fighting.”
