#WINDRUSH

Some of the estimated 500,000 members of the ‘Windrush’ generation, who were born in other Commonwealth countries, have been told they are in the UK illegally. The early immigrants, who came from the likes of Jamaica in the 1950s and 1960s, were granted leave to remain in 1971, but their status is now under threat. @Moh_kohn said: “So to be very clear, we think Enoch Powell was awful, but we are also deporting Windrush kids just like he wanted.” @Iandunt advised: “For anyone who knows someone affected by Windrush story: First thing to do is get them to contact their MP. Home Office only ever really give a damn when an MP gets involved.” @Okwonga wrote: “Some – not all! – of the horror at the UK Govt’s immigration policy really strikes me as naive. The #Windrush controversy is the logical result of years of anti-immigration rules and rhetoric.”

#ESTHERMCVEY

Conservative Work and Pensions Secretary Esther Mcvey appeared at Holyrood yesterday before the social security committee. She was criticised for her comments on a number of issues, including the so-called rape clause. @Andydphilip reported: “Rarely can you hear the sound of jaws dropping – but Esther Mcvey just said rape survivors might welcome the ‘opportunity to talk’ about their ordeal to a stranger to access benefits. ‘It’s potentially double support’.” @Fergoodness added: “Understandable anger at Holyrood committee this morning. Esther Mcvey completely deaf to the human impact of Tory welfare cuts.” @St3v3nparker tweeted: “She is an intolerable woman with the most dangerous views I’ve ever read.”

#RANGERS

The fallout from Rangers’ hammering at the hands of their great city rivals Celtic continued yesterday amid reports that some of the Ibrox players got into a scuffle in the tunnel. @Jackmorrison94 added: “Imagine being Jason Cummings and sitting on the bench all the time, second choice to Morelos, sore one!” @Oldfirmfacts1 joked: “Graeme Murty has rubbished claims of a bustup between Alfredo Morelos and Greg Docherty. ‘None of my players showed any fight whatsoever’.”
