Plays like: Manchester City’s Fernandinho. Also a Brazilian holding midfielder who cuts out attacking moves intuitively and has an eye for a pass through defence. He’d take the same route as Fernandinho who went from Ukrainian champions Shakhtar to the Etihad in the summer of 2013.

Price tag: Reports in February suggested a £45m deal had been agreed in principle, and the Shakhtar chief executive Sergei Palkin had confirmed that Fred would move to either Manchester City or Manchester United in the summer. Latest reports suggest that the Ukrainian club hope United will gazump the Citizens with a £60 million offer.
